WATCH: The relatable moment a pro loses three clubs to a tree

Joost Luiten found himself in the position usually occupied by a frustrated hacker as he ended a few clubs light going around the Jumeirah Golf Estates course.

Luiten had sent his driver into the trees in frustration and then launched two more clubs into the foliage in an attempt to retrieve the driver.

He didn’t appear to be terribly amused by the situation and hadn’t cooled off after propelling his equipment into his arboreal nemesis.

The tree wasn’t giving up the driver easily and the efforts of Luiten and his caddy were frustrated.

Many amateurs would rightly think twice before launching.

After dropping a second shot for the round at the eighth, the Dutchman’s rage erupted when he hit a wayward tee shot at the ninth.

He reacted by throwing his driver up a tree. You’d think it’s harmless, but it got trapped there and the tree also wasn’t far from the footpath for the spectators.

He then attempted to recover the club by throwing two additional clubs at it, but both of them were lodged in the tree’s branches.

"I had just made bogey at the eighth," he reflected post-round. "I was frustrated, one of those weeks [when] nothing went my way.

"Lost it and threw my driver and it got stuck up a tree. That sums up my week nicely.

"I tried to get it out by throwing some other clubs at it and [two] other clubs got stuck up the tree so I couldn't get them out."

Luiten went on to play the final hole of the front nine with 11 clubs, earning a bogey and dropping to five over for the tournament.

Fortunately, with the assistance of a volunteer, his clubs were finally recovered in time for him to play the tenth hole.

His wife Melanie-Jane, who was watching the round while eight months pregnant with their first child, assisted in returning the clubs to him.

"I just went on and played the rest of the hole and one of the volunteers got them out, otherwise it would have been a funny round to finish with 11 clubs."

Luiten signed a deal with TaylorMade in 2018, initially using their M2 driver but according to the latest information, he has a Sim range driver in his bag at 9.5 degrees loft with a Diamana S Plus 60 shaft.

He still uses Titleist irons, Vokey wedges and a Bettinardi putter.
