The drivers used by five of the PGA Tour's longest hitters

Everyone wants to step up to the tee and unleash a massive drive, but few hit them as far as the big boys of the PGA Tour.

Here we look at what drivers the men who have hit some of the longest drives of 2023 on the PGA Tour play with.

Luke List

Luke List has been known to favour the TaylorMade SIM2 driver and utilises a variety of TaylorMade drivers in his bag.

He prefers the standard version of the Sim 2 over the Max model.

After its introduction in 2021, reviewers concluded that the SIM2 quickly surpassed the capability provided by the previous SIM model and List quickly adopted the driver. The SIM2 was shown to have a darker carbon crown at address and to provide a slightly faster ball speed in comparison to the older models.

Ryan Brehm

Ryan Brehm uses the Ping G425 LST 9-degree driver in competition, favouring the distance the club gives him off the tee over something that would give him more control.

Known for its pear-shaped, 445cc head that reduces spin when compared to the G410 LST from Ping, it promotes a flatter, lower-launching trajectory for faster swing speeds and, therefore greater distance, which is precisely what 2022 Puerto Rico Open champion Brehm needs.

Brehm looks to buy himself breathing room with his tee shots, and the Ping G425 LST 9 degree really delivers.

Scottie Scheffler

The TaylorMade Stealth 2 Plus (8 at 6.5 degrees) with Fujikura Ventus Black 7 X shaft is a recent addition to Scheffler’s bag, but few would argue with the results.

Taylormade claims that the innovative “inverted cone technology” on this more recent model, which features a 2-gram lighter carbon face, has allowed their designers to present their most forgiving driver yet. The Stealth 2 impresses reviewers in testing, and the modest cosmetic adjustments made to the head, such as the matte-black crown being replaced by a gloss-black finish have also won it some notable fans.

JJ Spaun

Spaun, like Brehm, uses the Ping G425 LST 9° most often off the tee.

His G425 has a Fujikura Ventus Black 6X shaft and with his fast swing he uses the club to minimise revs to get more distance off the tee.

Despite the club’s modest head size it is remarkably forgiving for a driver that is made for better players. Spaun uses a lot of upper body power in his drives and the Ping G425 LST is ideal for his imperfect but powerful swing.

Justin Thomas

Justin Thomas makes use of the Titleist TSR3 (10 degrees at 9.25) with a Mitsubishi Diamana ZF 60 TX shaft.

The Titleist TSR3 is a challenging driver for non-professionals to use, but for the best in the world it rightly created buzz for launching the ball further.

Titleist claim that the club’s Speed Ring Variable Face Thickness helps players who find the middle of the face get more speed off the tee. This driver is one of the results of Titleist’s Speed Project.
