Scottie Scheffler lurking, Collin Morikawa shining among 5 things we learned Friday at the 2024 Travelers Championship

CROMWELL, Conn. — Rain and lightning around TPC River Highlands suspended the second round of the 2024 Travelers Championship at 4:13 p.m. local time on Friday with 14 golfers still on the course. For an hour the skies above the course rumbled as spectators who had endured sauna-like conditions headed to shelter and, in many cases, their cars to head home for the night.

Before the rain delay, Tom Kim, who slept on the lead after shooting an opening-round 62 on Thursday, gave himself a nice 22nd birthday present Friday by carding a 65 that put him at 13 under.

Collin Morikawa improved on his opening-round 66 by three shots, shooting a bogey-free 63 on Friday to reach 11 under. Shortly after he finished, 2024 PGA Championship winner Xander Schauffele sighed for a second-consecutive 65 to tie Morikawa and Akshay Bhatia, whose 64-65 start also leaves him at 11 under after two rounds on the par-70 course.

Eventually, the storms passed and the range was re-opened at 7 p.m. before the final groups took to the course at 7:25 p.m.
