Schauffele's Open victory continues incredible Major run for Vokey design wedges

Xander Schauffele’s Open victory continued an incredible record when it comes to Major winners.

The 152nd Open Champion played his way to the title with a pair of Vokey Design wedges, making it five victories in the last six major championships for players gaming Vokey wedges.

Schauffele put the result out of reach on Royal Troon's par-5 16th, using his NEW Vokey Design SM10 60.04T lob wedge to execute a menacing pitch over a greenside pot bunker. The expert effort put him in place to sink a 4-foot putt for birdie and reach his winning total of nine under par at the famous course.

The champion, who also carried a NEW Vokey SM10 56.10S sand wedge, gained nearly three shots on the field around the greens at Royal Troon with half of them coming on Sunday as he closed in on the title with ruthless efficiency.

At the PGA Championship, Schauffele had used his Vokey WedgeWorks 60-degree Low Bounce K lob wedge to make the tournament-clinching up and down on the 72nd hole. The champion most regularly games his 60.06K, rotating to the 60.04T during weeks with tighter, firmer conditions such as Royal Troon.

In Scotland at the 152nd Open Championship, 49 per cent (217) of the gap, sand and lob wedges in play were Vokey Design, compared to 64 (14%) for the nearest competitor.

The champion also led a 1-2-3 finish for Vokey wedge players, with a total of nine Vokey design clubs among the trio.

What’s more Vokey wedges have been brought to the winner’s circle in 20 of the last 25 weeks on the PGA TOUR.

Bob Vokey has ensured that his name is associated with golfing excellence.

Vokey has spent decades honing his craft with unwavering dedication.

He has learned from some of the world’s greatest players, and his obsession for performance has only grown over time, guided by instinct and hours at the wheel.

Anyone can manufacture a wedge within reason, but it takes a master to turn a piece of high-performance technology into an instrument of creative control.

For Vokey, this is the grind without end and his singular passion.

Much of Vokey’s research and development takes place around the driving ranges, practice greens, and bunkers of the PGA Tour, where he works closely with professionals to better understand exactly what they need in terms of design and, most importantly, feel.

“I have always said since the day I arrived at Titleist, that I have the best R&D facility in the world – The Professional Tours,” Vokey says.

Vokey Design wedges have been the overwhelming favourite among Tour players since 2004, with close to 40 per cent of all sand, lob, and approach wedges in play each week.

While the PGA Tour is the ultimate proving ground, Vokey always has the amateur golfer in mind when he goes to his design table.

His philosophy has resonated in the marketplace where Vokey Design wedges are best-sellers with golfers of all skill levels.
