Records galore for Clemson, defending champs struggle after Friday's first round at NCAA Women's Golf Championship

CARLSBAD, Calif. — In a long-awaited debut, Omni La Costa’s renovated North Course got its first test Friday with the start of the 2024 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship.

The Gil Hanse redesign hasn’t opened to the public yet, though many of the best female amateurs in the world battled the course during the opening round under cloudy skies but perfect conditions otherwise.

The first day on the new layout provided plenty of information on what to expect for the rest of the week. Some teams put themselves in great position while others have work to do to try to make match play.
