Rare sighting of northern lights illuminates the Home of Golf, Jack's Place, more

The skies over some of golf’s most famous cathedrals lit up this weekend in a fashion as rare a hole-in-one on a par 4.

The aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights, glowed in brilliant purple, green, yellow and pink hues. The Old Course at St. Andrews, Jack’s Place at Muirfield Village in Dublin, Ohio, and Royal Liverpool, site of last year’s 151st British Open in England were among the courses far and wide to post stunning images with the night sky illuminated during the early hours of May 11.

According to USA Today, the powerful geomagnetic solar storm — the brightest in more than a decade — will persist throughout the weekend, offering another chance for many to catch the northern lights.

Thanks to the phenomena, some of our favorite courses have never looked so good. Here are some of the golf courses around the world that have posted photos.
