Puma launch eyebrow-raising new golf shoe design that could be trailblazing

Puma have introduced an intriguing new design for their PHANTOMCAT NITRO golf shoe.

The shoes have everything you would expect from a golf shoe made by one of the market leaders and a surprising new cleat design.

The Flexspike cleats have caught the attention with the soft-spiked shoes sporting amoeba-shaped cleats which promise to help distribute weight more evenly, making them more flexible and also more comfortable when walking.

Puma have backed themselves to create something both unique and innovative although it is still too early to tell how these shoes will actually perform.

New designs of soft spike shoes could be taken in a whole new direction if Puma achieve any sort of success with this shoe.

This shoe looks like a great addition to the Pumas range of golf shoes, but the Phantomcat’s technology promises to elevate it to a new level.

The new nitrogen-infused foam in the heel provides an enhanced rebound and lightweight reaction as you walk.

Puma has rebuilt its toe box with an ergonomically formed last to provide a better fit for more golfers.

"The Phantomcat Nitro is our most advanced shoe to date," said Andrew Lawson, Senior PLM Footwear at Puma Golf.

"Nitro foam and Flexspike technology gives the golfer a combination of traction and comfort like never before. The feedback we've received from our Tour Athletes has been fantastic and I can't wait for golfers to try this shoe."

Flexspike’s distinctive cleat form was designed to maximise surface contact with the ground.

These cleats improve traction on the ground and weight distribution, making the shoes feel lighter and more comfortable. Flexspike technology lets your foot move in a variety of orientations while you swing and stroll throughout the day.

The Phantomcat Nitro’s full-grain leather uppers come with a one-year waterproof warranty.

The TPU outsole has a moulded heel panel and extra traction components to help secure the foot in place as well.

PGA Tour professionals like Rickie Fowler, Gary Woodland, Justin Suh and JJ Spaun are expected to don the new design of cleats soon.

The promise is that this is not only a bold new design but also Puma’s most advanced golf shoe to date.

If it can deliver on the promise of improved performance and comfort, Puma might just find themselves taking a bigger share of the golf shoe market.

There is no timeline for players on the PGA Tour to start wearing the new type of cleats just yet.
