For the first time in 2025, the PGA Tour is moving outside of the USA and entering the cultural mecca of Mexico.

The 2025 Mexico Open will be the eighth event of the season so far, with the country’s rich ancient history, popular cuisine and jubilant vibes making it the perfect spot to both watch and play golf.

Vidanta Vallarta will play host on a golf course sitting along the Pacific Ocean coast in Nayarit. The VidantaWorld Resort covers a monumental 2500 acres, offering more than just a place to watch the golf.

Major season is fast approaching and with the 2025 PGA Tour season in full swing, the field will be vying for every spot and the subsequent FedEx points.

The stylish Swede, Ludvig Åberg, came out on top last weekend at the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines and now sits at the summit of the FedEx Cup standings.

With the event getting underway on Thursday, here are five facts you may not have known about the Mexican host…

The course follows the stunning Ameca River

The Vidanta Vallarta course is situated alongside the picturesque Ameca River that stretches 230km through Western Mexico and boasts several marine life species that are exclusive to the area.

It’s home to an Ameca Shiner, a fish that was thought to be extinct in 2001, prompting a reintroduction project in 2025.

The PGA stars will be desperate to hit as many fairways as possible this weekend – crocodiles make the river a hazard that’s worth avoiding!

World’s longest golf buggy suspension bridge

If you’re afraid of heights then this golf resort may not be for you as it’s home to the longest suspension bridge for golf buggies at a whopping 170m in length.

The iconic bridge has stunning scenic views of the idyllic riverbanks and landscape with glimpses of the distant Sierra Madre Mountains in the distance.

Nestled in a resort that is out of this world

The sheer mass of the VidantaWorld resort makes it one of the most attractive visiting options for golfers and luxury seekers alike.

Home to 2900 rooms, three golf courses and a plethora of vibrant dining options, spectators and golfers certainly won’t be twiddling their thumbs in this hotspot of Mexico’s west.

A PGA Tour newcomer

When we think of PGA Golf events we think of history such as THE PLAYERS Championship or the WM Phoenix Open, but this new course on the block only became a PGA Tour stop in 2022.

The Vidanta Vallarta course was once a regular venue on the European Challenge Tour from 2004 to 2006 but is now the home to one of Mexico’s premier sporting events with a $7 million purse and 500 FedEx points up for grabs.

297 yards to the pin – a driveable par 4

The seventh hole is a reachable par 4 just shy of 300 yard. So you’ll plenty of this week’s field ‘going for it’.

But don’t be fooled…

The hole will offer a series of entertaining twists and turns with water hazards waiting menacingly around the sun-soaked greens in Mexico.
