How far Bryson DeChambeau hits each club

In recent times there has not been a more fascinating golfer than Bryson DeChambeau.
The self-styled ‘Scientist’ first used single-length irons in 2013 before turning pro three years later having played Walker Cup and helped the US to victory in the Eisenhower Trophy alongside Beau Hossler and Denny McCarthy.
In his first season he ranked 45th in the Driving Distance stats at just under 300 yards. The following season he was 25th, then 34th before rocketing to the top in the 2019-20 season with an average drive of 322 yards.
The American decided to add muscle mass and 40 pounds to increase his swing speed and soon enough he was lifting the 2020 US Open at Winged Foot.
These days he averages 343 yards with a Krank Formula Fire driver which is primarily used by elite long-drive players.
In the first week of putting it into play he shot a 58 to win the LIV event at the Greenbrier and it was in the bag as he edged out Rory McIlroy at the 2024 US Open at Pinehurst No. 2.
His irons are, needless to say, away from the norm too being 3D-printed by a small known company called Avoda Golf.
They employ the same bulge-and-roll technology that is seen on driver faces and feature weight screws on the toe and heel to address mishits. Length wise the short irons are the same as an 8-iron while the longer irons vary in length.
They were only approved by the USGA on the Monday before the 2024 Masters. Two months later they were helping DeChambeau to that US Open success.
You could pick any yardage as ridiculous. His lofts will be strengthened, it's thought that his 5-iron is around 17˚ so more like a traditional 2-iron, but that still goes nearly 250 yards through the air.
The 5-wood, which is cranked to a strong 3-wood loft, carries further than a lot of Tour pros hit their drivers and this is a DeChambeau who has lost some of that muscle and reined in his swing.
His pitching wedge carries a whopping 170 yards so, while most of us will be reaching for a 6 or 7-iron here, Bryson is delving into the bottom of the bag.
Given how far he hits his longer clubs there will be some big gaps and the most noticeable is the one between his pitching and gap wedge which is 31 yards.
So, when he does face a shot of 150 yards, he will have to manufacture something. His most lofted club, a 60˚ wedge, is his club of choice for that 100-yard shot.
DeChambeau’s yardages
Driver (Krank Formula Fire 5˚) – 343 yards
