UFC Lightweight Champion Islam Makhachev hopes to return from injury by the end of the year or early next year. Makhachev successfully defended his UFC Lightweight Title by beating Dustin Poirier at UFC 302 in a fifth-round submission. Islam was expected to face Arman Tsarukyan, who defeated Charles Oliveira at UFC 300. This would have been a rematch of their 2019 clash, where Islam won.
