Buntz & Cameron boost Ally Pally hopes, as Christie claims maiden titleJosh Gorton

Stowe Buntz and David Cameron strengthened their bids for World Darts Championship qualification last weekend, as Darryl Christie celebrated his maiden CDC title.

The year's fourth weekend of Championship Darts Corporation action saw Events 8-10 take place in Indianapolis on August 1-3, and it was surprise package Christie who kicked off the weekend's treble-header with a landmark victory.

The Canadian overcame Gavin Nicoll, Trevor Buboltz, Hossey Hicks and Nick Linberg in reaching the Event Eight semi-finals, where he ran out a 7-4 winner against former North American champion Leonard Gates.

Christie fought back from 4-3 down to topple Gates in the last four, before producing 121 and 118 checkouts to defeat Jacob Taylor 7-5 in an all-Canadian showpiece.

Cameron then came out on top in Event Nine on Saturday evening, defeating US Darts Masters quarter-finalist Jason Brandon in a deciding-set affair to clinch his ninth CDC title.

The 55-year-old survived five match darts from Buntz in a compelling semi-final, before dodging a further three match darts from Brandon in a last-leg shoot-out to take the title.

Cameron also came through a deciding-leg tie against Steve Warnock in the last eight, having kicked off his campaign with resounding wins over Elmer Kempt and Hicks respectively.

However, Buntz avenged his semi-final defeat to Cameron by claiming the Event Ten spoils on Sunday, producing a string of superb displays to boost his hopes of an Alexandra Palace return.

The former Grand Slam of Darts quarter-finalist dispatched Tour Card Holder Danny Lauby 6-1 in the last 16, before averaging 104.86 in his six-leg whitewash of Canadian veteran Taylor.

Following a 7-4 success against Cameron in the last four, Buntz then averaged almost 98 to edge out Adam Sevada 7-6, as the top two performing players on the CDC circuit in 2025 went head-to-head.

Sevada – eyeing his fifth title of the campaign – led 6-5 at one stage, but Buntz made a brilliant sprint for the finish, registering back-to-back legs of 13 and 12 darts to secure his eighth CDC crown.

Despite missing out on glory in Indianapolis, Sevada retains top spot on the CDC rankings, with Buntz cementing second spot ahead of Cameron in third position.

The top-ranked American and top-ranked Canadian on the final CDC rankings will qualify for the 2025/26 Paddy Power World Darts Championship, alongside the top-ranked non-qualified player on the final standings.

Gates is further adrift in fourth position, although he has already confirmed his World Darts Championship qualification, courtesy of winning the CDC Cross-Border Challenge in April.

The 2025 CDC season resumes later this month, as the fifth weekend of action takes place in Chicago from August 22-24.
