Luke Humphries and Rob Cross both hit nine-darters in the Premier League on Thursday night and both went on to lose the match.

It was a dramatic night in Brighton, with some incredible quality on display, as there tends to be in the star-studded event.

Humphries delighted the crowd early on as he landed the perfect nine in just the second leg of his quarter-final meeting with Cross.

It was the first nine-darter of the Premier League so far this season on the fifth week of the event, but there was not much of a wait for the second.

Cross went on to beat Cool Hand 6-4 despite the perfect leg and Voltage returned for a semi-final meeting with Nathan Aspinall.

It was not until the sixth leg of that contest that Cross landed the perfect nine, once again sparking chaos among the fans in Brighton.

It was brilliance from the former world champion, but just like Humphries he went on to lose as the Asp secured a narrow 6-5 victory.

Both Cross and Humphries will be handed a nice prize for their perfect legs as tournament sponsor BetMGM are awarding them each a set of gold darts.

The 18 carat arrows are reportedly worth £30,000, so will be a boost to the pair after their defeats.

Humphries said of the bonus: ‘It’s a nice second prize. It was a good game, obviously really pleased to hit the nine but Rob played a fantastic game against me.

‘I’d rather have won the game, but it was a nice second prize, really happy to win that, but a little bit disappointed. The better player won.’

Aspinall’s win over Cross booked a spot in the final against Luke Littler after the recent UK Open champion beat Chris Dobey and Michael van Gerwen earlier in the night.
