Tyson Fury made £42,000 for his debut – now he's earning millions to box Francis Ngannou and makes stunning tax claim

Tyson Fury has made the bold claim that he pays more tax than the whole of Morecambe where he lives.

After 15 years as a professional boxer Fury has accumulated some serious wealth.

He has had huge paychecks from his trilogy of fights with Deontay Wilder, his bout against Dillian Whyte, and he will earn millions from his upcoming clash with Francis Ngannou on Saturday night in Saudi Arabia.

Even in his debut, Fury revealed that he earned £42,000, telling IFL TV: “I got £100,000 signing bonus. £33,000 a year for three years and then £9000 for my first one.

“So, I got £42,000 for my first fight, which wasn’t bad, back in the day I was a millionaire.”

And this is only taking into consideration his earnings in the ring, Fury also has his own Netflix show, he is an author and he has his own energy drink.

But, earning a lot of money comes with a big tax bill and Fury recently made a shocking but unverified claim.

“Here’s an interesting fact,” ‘The Gypsy King‘ said. “I pay more tax than the whole of Morecambe combined. That’s shocking isn’t it.”

Morecambe has a population of around 35,000 people so this would be a very hefty tax bill.

But, when it comes to Fury, it seems he doesn’t see much point in holding onto his money anyway.

“Even if you give me a trillion tonight in my account,” Fury said, “it would be a buzz for doing a deal, because I love the dealing back and forward, however, once I have the trillion it wouldn’t really mean much to me, it wouldn’t alter my life one percent.

“I wouldn’t even spend it, it would just sit in a high interest account accumulating money, it would be pointless, you may as well give it to someone else because I would not put it to any use…

“It would be pointless giving me any large amounts of money because I’d never spend it.”
