Shakur Stevenson and Anthony Joshua are two world class boxers who clearly have a lot of respect for one another.

America’s three-weight king posted a tweet on Thursday paying tribute to the UK’s two-time heavyweight world champion after comments he made in a recent interview.

Speaking to TNT, Joshua was asked to name the best boxer from many notable countries.

When it came to America, he had no doubts over his answer.

AJ replied: “The best boxer from the USA right now is Shakur Stevenson.”

Stevenson saw the quote as it was shared online.

He took to Twitter and replied: “Appreciate that champ @AnthonyJoshua.

“One of the most resilient boxers in the world, I'm rocking with you on the 21st killer #ChasingGreatness.”

AJ is set to face Daniel Dubois on September 21 with the opportunity to become a three-time heavyweight world champion.

Stevenson will clearly be in his corner next weekend, but won’t be fighting again himself for the time being.

On Wednesday night, it was announced that the 27-year-old’s next bout has been cancelled.

Stevenson was set to defend his WBC lightweight world title vs Joe Cordina on October 12.

This would have been the co-main event before Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

However, Stevenson has now suffered a hand injury in training and been forced to withdraw.

He posted a picture on Thursday of himself having undergone surgery.

Stevenson captioned this: “God works in mysterious ways.

“Through the ups and downs I'm steady hungry and motivated more then ever.

“2025 gone be my best year yet. Surgery went great it's a minor set back for a major comeback.”
