Punch stats show Francis Ngannou landed more power punches than Tyson Fury in controversial defeat

Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou turned out to be a lot closer than anyone had expected.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou knocked Fury down in the third round, but ‘The Gypsy King’ went on to win by split decision.

Although many people believed Ngannou deserved to win and he out-landed Fury through the fight in terms of power punches.

When it comes to jabs, however, Fury landed 71 compared to Ngannou’s 59.

And round by round Fury out-landed Ngannou in six of the ten scheduled rounds.

But, Ngannou did not see it this way, as he believes he should have claimed victory.

Taking to social media after the fight, Ngannou said: “This boxing world wild but some judges should be responsible for their actions.

“This type of stuff is what f***s up people’s career.”

And he followed up in an interview with ESPN, saying: “The fact that I didn’t win surprised me…

“If he’s being honest, he would say I won that fight. I won that fight, there’s not a question about it.

“But, even before getting here I knew I’m not winning a decision because I’m a new guy in the house.

“I know they need – there’s a structural business out there – and you need to do a lot to destroy that. It is what it is."
