Mike Tyson isn’t a fan of Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford.
Saudi boxing chief HE Turki Alalshikh is currently eyeing up a super fight between the two iconic champions.
Canelo vs Crawford would match two former undisputed world champions[/caption]The Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority has had the much-anticipated clash at the top of his boxing wishlist for quite some time and even tried to make an offer to both men before Canelo‘s last outing against Edgar Berlanga.
A breakdown in communication between HE Alalshikh and Canelo led to the proposal being withdrawn, although it appears to be back on the table again now.
“Canelo, come on, we are ready,” said HE Alalshikh in a video message to Canelo following his unanimous decision win over Berlanga earlier this month.
“You heard it from him,” Crawford concurred. “Just put me in the game.
“Canelo-Crawford, the biggest fight in boxing. But we stay ready though.
“We stay ready, that way we ain’t got to get ready.”
While Crawford is desperate to get the fight over the line, former heavyweight world champion Tyson thinks it is bad news for ‘Bud’.
“I don’t like that fight,” Tyson told the Come and Talk 2 Me Podcast.
“Too much weight [for Crawford]. He had a close fight with the last guy he fought [Israil Madrimov] because he was big and really awkward.
“He shouldn’t have even fought that guy.”
Crawford is currently operating at super-welterweight, two weight classes below Canelo – who is the reigning WBA, WBC and WBO super-middleweight champion.
The Omaha banger made his debut at 154lbs in August, defeating Israil Madrimov via unanimous decision.
In doing so, he was awarded the WBA super-welterweight title and WBO ‘interim’ super-welterweight trinket.
HE Alalshikh insists Crawford is only interested in boxing Canelo, however, he is not short of options.
On August 28, the WBO ordered Crawford to face WBO and WBC world champion Sebastian Fundora in a unification clash.
"Please be advised that the parties herein have thirty (30) days upon issuance… to reach an agreement," WBO Championship Committee Chairman Luis Batista-Salas said in an official letter.
"If an accord is not reached within the timeframe stated herein, a purse bid will be ordered."
The minimum bid for the fight is reportedly $200,000 if both parties can’t reach an agreement by September 27.
