George Kambosos' next opponent after Vasyl Lomachenko fight already planned

George Kambosos’ promoter Lou DiBella has an idea of his next fight irrespective of the result.

Kambosos will take on Vasyl Lomachenko this weekend for the IBF lightweight world title with high stakes on the former’s home patch at the RAC Arena in Perth.

The Australian star is looking to continue his redemption path after back-to-back defeats against Devin Haney, having beaten British star Maxi Hughes in June 2023.

His promoter Lou DiBella believes that it could be a very positive spell for the former unified champion, who could step in the ring with Teofimo Lopez for a huge rematch next.

He said: "If George performs well there is always the [Teofimo] Lopez fight because he kicked Teofimo's rear end.

“So that fight will always be there as long as George still looks like a world-class fighter.

“And I have no reason to believe he won't because George is a world-class fighter and I know he's going to give a great performance Sunday.

“The question is, will it be enough to beat Lomachenko? Win, lose or draw the fight can happen.”

Lopez and Kambosos faced off in a thriller at Madison Square Garden in November 2021, with the challenger inflicting a stunning first career defeat on ‘The Takeover’.

Kambosos captured the titles from Lopez who had stolen them from Lomachenko just the year before, but was unable to resist the challenge of Haney.

A win could see him thrust back into world title contention at a new weight, with Lopez currently holding the WBO super-lightweight title.

‘The Emperor’ suggested last year he was in no rush to rematch Lopez, but would welcome the challenge if it was fairly presented.

Kambosos said: "It's not no matter what. I beat him. I took his belt and I beat him. I beat him fair and square.

“The ball is in his court. If he wants to get it done and it makes sense, maybe he can come all the way to Australia. I went to his backyard.

“Or we can do it somewhere else, Greece. We can do it. But I took that 'W', so I'm in no rush to fight him again. I didn't lose to him, I beat him.

“It's up to [Lopez]. If they want it, his team or whatever, decide to push for it, then we can talk."
