'Generational heavyweight' – Simon Jordan expects 'lucky' Tyson Fury to be back to his best vs Oleksandr Usyk after Francis Ngannou win

Simon Jordan has insisted that he believes Tyson Fury will be far better against Oleksandr Usyk than he was against Francis Ngannou.

The WBC heavyweight world champion got knocked down by his debutant opponent and narrowly scraped a split decision win on Saturday night, much to the shock of the boxing world.

In the build-up on fight week, a lot of the talk diverted away from the contest itself.

At times, discussions instead centred around Fury’s feud with certain talkSPORT presenters – Jordan being one of the more prominent names.

The Gypsy King banned talkSPORT radio from covering the fight and this drew a strong response.

Following the conclusion of the bout though, Jordan has now issued a fresh assessment.

“My overriding perspective is that Tyson Fury doesn’t have to have a relationship with anybody he doesn’t want one with,” he said on he talkSPORT talkBOXING podcast.

“If he doesn’t believe talkSPORT have been fair and he doesn’t believe they’ve supported him in a view, that’s up to him.

“I think he knows it’s wrong.

“Did he beat Piers Morgan £1million [that he would never fight again]? Did he pay it? No he didn’t.

“Did he say he was gonna have ten fights and make Derek Chisora the very back of the pile? Has he done that?

“All of these things have resulted in a strange scenario which is disappointing.

“But look, we’ve given Tyson a lot of airtime – he didn’t want any of it.

“He’s lucky to have got away with the result on the weekend.

“I still think that when he gets the chance to fight Usyk we will see the Tyson Fury that I believe is the generational best heavyweight.

“And I hope along the way he gets to become a better person as well.”

talkSPORT understands that Fury vs Usyk is now being targeted for February 17.
