Canelo Cools Terence Crawford Talk and Says No To Jake Paul

Canelo Alvarez is currently a busy athlete and star that is not actually focused on boxing right now it appears.

Alvarez had two good wins in 2024 over previously unbeaten punchers Jaime Munguia and Edgar Berlanga.

Alvarez beat both of them easily on points.

Speaking in a media scrum Alvarez said of what is maybe next:

“It’s just the beginning. What do you think about all these people showing up for you?
I really have to thank every single person who is here—some since last night, and others since early this morning. I feel so grateful for it. Thank you to everyone who always supports me in everything I do.

What’s your favorite thing on the menu?
Everything is great, but tacos al pastor are my favorite. It’s such a beautiful collaboration between two countries. You know, I studied here, and it feels like such a small world. My wife also spent time here. It’s funny, and I love that.

A lot of people want to know—could you take on Jake Paul? What about Mike Tyson?
I feel sad when I see Mike Tyson doing what he does at his age, but I understand it’s business for them, and if he’s fine with it, then so be it. Does that make me want to get revenge for Mike Tyson? Not really. Jake Paul has been calling me out, and I think about it when I see these fights and the injustice, but I’ll say no for now. My team and I are focused elsewhere.

There are rumors circulating on social media about you negotiating directly with Terence Crawford for a main fight. Is there any truth to that?
No, I’m not talking about boxing yet. Right now, I’m focused on other things and enjoying time with my family. Maybe in January, we’ll start working on boxing again.

Turki (Alalshikh) said he’d like to open a direct line of communication with you—no middleman. What are your thoughts on that?
I never say no to business. If it’s a good business opportunity for me, I’m always open to talking, no matter what.

Well, there you have it.

That doesn’t mean the Terence Crawford won’t happen of course, just that he is not looking at boxing at the moment.

If Turki Alalshikh can make Alvarez a big offer for the David Benavidez fight to happen it will take boxing to the next level as a sport.

Boxing fans have wanted the Canelo vs Benavidez fight for years and it would make a lot of sense given the interest in the fight in North America, Central and South America.
