Boxing referee punched in face as fighter Floyd Mayweather once claimed 'has everything' butts heads with opponent

Keyshawn Davis’ rival Miguel Madueno accidentally landed a stray punch on their referee.

Davis was looking to preserve his undefeated record on the undercard of Shakur Stevenson’s lacklustre win over Artem Harutyunan in Newark.

The talented young star has received praise from boxing legend Floyd Mayweather as possessing ‘everything’ to go all the way to the top in the sport.

But his latest win was far from perfect as he was forced to get into a heated scrap with rugged rival Madueno who certainly didn’t come to lie down.

During the contest, things became heated after the bell had rang signalling for the end of the sixth round.

The pair butted heads and were clearly angry as things became extremely hostile in the ring.

They pushed back and forwards with Davis then raising his hands and throwing a quick punch at his rival.

Madueno then attempted to respond by throwing a left hand, but having been moved back his punch connected with the referee.

The official went staggering backwards briefly before regaining his composure, after taking the shot clean in the face.

Madueno was not deducted any points or disqualified despite the shot, given it didn’t hit the intentional target.

It wasn’t the end of the controversy, with Davis picked up and lifted from the floor in a WWE-style move during a round.

The referee quickly split it apart, but it was clear there was no loved-loss between the pair.

Davis did go on to get the victory, with the judges scoring the fight unanimously in his favour.

It meant the former Olympic silver medallist moved to eleven fights without defeat in his professional career.

‘The Businessman’ will be hopeful that he can continue his rise to the top, with some big nights to come.

Opportunities continue to arise for Davis, who has trained alongside boxing great Mayweather in the past.

And he revealed that the retired star had some huge words of praise for him when giving advice.

He said: “Floyd is always in the gym helping people out. I was in there with my brother Kelvin Davis, and he was helping both of us.

“You can learn a lot just by being around him. I was blessed.

“He told me, ‘Keyshawn, you have everything’. ‘You have the skill, you have the ability, you have everything’.

“He said the only people who could beat him were the ones more conditioned, so make sure you are always on top of your conditioning.”
