Anthony Joshua appears to accidentally punch trainer Ben Davison, but fans aren't sure if he actually connected

Anthony Joshua accidentally punched his trainer Ben Davison in the face during a recent training session – or did he?

Davison uploaded a clip to his Instagram story on Sunday of him appearing to take a dig from the Watford powerhouse while holding the pads for his fighter.

Davison captioned the video: “Chin on the boy.” But some fans insist the shot never landed.

One tweeted: “He… didn't get hit.”

Another wrote: “Lol, if that landed Ben would be in another planet.”

A third added: “Didn't touch him.”

Meanwhile, others think Joshua connected, but that he pulled out of the shot.

“Joshua pulled the hell outta that punch, as he should too… lol,” one supporter insisted.

“Lucky wasn’t a full-on punch lol,” another added.

Joshua and Davison have been working together for just six months.

AJ linked up with Davison, who made a name for himself working with Tyson Fury, ahead of his fifth-round stoppage win over Otto Wallin in December.

It proved to be a much-improved performance from his previous two outings against Jermaine Franklin and Robert Helenius under former head coach Derrick James.

Joshua was criticised for his gun-shy approach to those bouts but since linking up with Davison he has seemingly rediscovered the fire in his belly.

Following Joshua’s win over Wallin, the pair joined forces again for his second-round demolition of Francis Ngannou.

The Cameroonian cage fighter had caused Fury all kinds of problems five months prior but there were no such issues as Joshua walked through him.

Speaking to assembled media ahead of the crossover clash, Joshua opened up on why he chose Davison to be his new head trainer.

"The reason I was able to gel with Ben is because he doesn't try to change your style," Joshua told assembled media.

"He kind of looks at your attributes and adds to what you're good at.

“I went to a stage where I was trying to change my style: a bit of back-foot boxing, box behind the jab, stick and move, not be explosive, control the pace, and stuff like that.

“But Ben was like: 'That's not your body type! You're a f***ing big unit, you're explosive, go and knock f***ing people out.

“Basically, work to your body type. So, we got along in that sense. He gets it."
