'A very odd view' – George Groves and Gareth A Davies debate whether Tyson Fury will fight Oleksandr Usyk next

George Groves is convinced that we will never see the undisputed heavyweight clash between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.

The pair had signed to fight before Fury’s recent clash with Francis Ngannou, which he won by controversial split decision, despite getting knocked down in the third round.

Initially, the plan had been for Fury to go straight into the fight with Usyk on December 23 in Saudi Arabia for all the belts in the heavyweight division.

But, after Fury sustained more damage against Ngannou than anyone had expected, the fight with Usyk has now had to be delayed, with February next year the likely date.

But, former super middleweight world champion Groves does not think the undisputed heavyweight world title fight will happen and he even believes that Fury could retire from boxing altogether.

Speaking on talkSPORT’s Fight Night, Groves said: “I don’t think Fury fights again.

“But, if he does fight again, he fights Ngannou, I don’t think he fights Usyk.”

Although, talkSPORT’s Gareth A Davies, disagreed as he replied: “That’s very odd, George, that’s a very odd view, they’ve signed to fight in February.”

“Who cares?” Groves clapped back. “They were signed to fight on December 23 I thought and then he didn’t do a press conference.”

Groves continued: “People think I bash Fury a lot and I do, but I just tell it how I think it and how I see it and I am a big Usyk fan.

“This is speaking from what I’ve experienced in my career and I can imagine that Fury has more than enough now.

“Does he really need to roll the dice and sure maybe get a career defining win against Usyk and a big payday or does he get beat.

“And then how does he tell everyone he’s the baddest man on the planet.”
