Cooper Teare and Taryn Rawlings stand out in Stirling

American athletes took the honours and broke meetings records in the elite races that brought a brilliant edition of the Monument Mile Classic to a close on Saturday night (August 24).

The tagline for the meeting is “Bring the Flames” and the action definitely heated up across a programme of 32 mile races that were staged the event on the Stirling University track in the shadow of the Wallace Monument in central Scotland, with the elite 'A' races featuring high quality fields that attracted athletes from across the UK, Europe and the USA.

With Olympians Laura Muir and Andy Butchart among the crowd, Cooper Teare – training partner of Olympic 1500m champion Cole Hocker – emerged triumphant in the ‘A’ race in a meeting record time of 3:53.09 from James Gormley (3:53.69) and Tyler Bilyard (3:54.43) as no fewer than 11 men ran under the four-minute barrier.

Andrew McGill of Cambuslang produced a big personal best of 3:55.89 to be the first Scot home in ninth, just ahead of Kane Elliott's PB of 3:56.11.
